The Human- Virus War

For all the millennials, gen z and gen alpha, the phenomenon of “Lockdown” is a fairly new concept. We are so used to being on the go, working, socializing and traveling which has hampered our family time. The lockdown has left us no other option but to catch up on all the lost family time where we are actually doing so many activities together like eating all our meals, watching movies, zoom calls and playing games. I feel the lockdown has made us closer to distant friends and relatives as well whom we wouldn’t speak to very regularly, it is making us “check-in” every now and then. A few days back my parents and aunt aka Gen X, were on a virtual meet where they were telling me this whole concept of a lockdown that existed way back in the 1971 during the Indo-Pakistan war. They were innocent kids back then where they remember staying indoors and were asked to put off the lights at a stipulated times to avoid bomb attacks. Large brown sheets with black sheets were often hung to cover the windows of houses to conceal any signs of existence. There is a huge difference between then and now but there are many similarities as well. The dark moments, the claustrophobic feeling, the wait for the happy and bright days, the infinite deaths, when will the “indefinitely” end? May 4th or 15th? Is this the new normal? Only time can tell For now, the virus has struck the humans in the first battle; but the war will continue…
